Wisdom
by Dwight Powell, on wisdom
There are no words that can contain it
It’s far greater than a single thought
For if mere words alone could explain it
It would be the only thing we taught
It’s made up of not only knowing
But of a large collection of moments present
So as your memory continues growing
Be sure to heed the lesson...
That knowing will only serve as part
And time alone will not bring it near
Cultivate in yourself a braver heart
And in due time it will appear
Take actions based in knowings gained
It requires one to know and do
For if your knowledge remains restrained
You might as well not have a clue
You’ll also need to remain aware
Give each Now the respect it’s due
For if you don’t my friend beware
You’ll be missing important clues
You won’t always recognize your teachers
Leaving lessons hardly heard
But true silence is practiced well by seekers
Lending their ears to the unspoken word
Some things that you think you know
I warn... you may not know yet
For some knowings develop slow
So I urge you to not forget
That the You who received the lesson
Is not always the You who truly learned
Knowledge unchanged through your progressions
Leaving questions of self as the main concern
All questions must be asked
As answers need to be attained
But along the way I hope you’ll grasp
It requires far more than one can explain
You are the filter as you are the lens
Through which the world is made real
Its nature and its substance will both depend
On how you choose for it to be revealed
It requires sound judgment and perception
A collaboration only with that which is
Unaffected by the illusions and deceptions
The lies from without as well as from within
It’s a never-ending quest
In more directions than just one
For as you pass the final test
It will reveal you’ve only just begun
So I ask to those who know
Where should I begin?
With the clues laid many moons ago
Or with the path that leads within?
